I ran across a blog that said "Talks stall on contract extension for Anthony Spencer" and it made me think do I really want a contract extension for Spencer?
And the answer is... He would have to walk on water for me to even consider resigning him, because it kind of baffles me how hard it seems to be for Jerry to let players go Pittsburgh seems to do it, NE definitely does it(with No problem) The Giants do it, point being THE GOOD TEAMS THAT HAVE WON DO IT! Why is it so hard for Jerry to let go, I was one of the people who didn't want to franchise or resign Spencer because of the amount of D-lineman that I felt were in the draft, I like Crawford he's bigger, stronger, and according to reports and plays faster with better technique. I believe we should have drafted SOMEONE, But I trust Rod Marnelli and if he see's something we don't I'm cool with that, But I don't want to resign Anthony Spencer... Thoughts

He will play hard this season if they don't re=sign him.  He will be playing for a future contract from another team.  And we do not need him around

Ok, here's my updated 17 round mock with 10 trades and secondary mock in the event a new draft in the event we sign a certain coach.

he could just take the 20+ million he's made the last couple of seasons and walk across the water into the sunset.

He's not worth this kind of money... Anthony "Almost" Spencer

Every team in the league  has "Almost" players not worth the kind of money they seek. A cheap team like San Diego won't even pay their players that do deserve a descent pay raise to keep them. I don't worry about the money issues anyway. Really the only people that should gripe about high salaries are the season ticket holders and people that go to games and pay for parking and concessions and high beer prices. If you don't go to games and just watch it on TV, all you got to worry about is your cable TV bill if the game is not on local TV. Player salaries whether they are worth it or not is a non-issue to me cause its not out of my pocket and I do go to a game occasionally and pay the high prices. My biggest complaint is the high beer prices due to player salaries. Anthony Spencer has a lot of game left and he's not a bad player. He just may thrive in a less complicated 4 - 3 defence. I hope we do get him re-signed at whatever price it takes.

I like Spencer, but his age is what scares me.  In my opinion, if Spence has another good season 12 sacks then that would just solidify what the team is already thinking, and that is he is going to want to much money.  And I really think FA of next year will tell us what the team is going to do with the draft next May as far as the first pick.  Or it could be a deal like we had in the 12 draft. where we needed players at corner signed the best one in FA then drafted the best one in the draft.  Same could happen in this case as well. because of Spencer leaving via FA and Ware getting older.  Hmmmmmm, thank im gonna save this post for when this time comes around.

With our new 4-3 defense, I'm betting that Spencer will have better numbers than last season. If the Cowboys are going to sign him, better they do it now before his price goes up.

We shouldn't have franchised him this year as a strong side DE in the first place, no way he should get a contract extension.

"I'm troubled, but not to the extent that I want to do anything about it" - Jerry's philosophy as a GM.

So we just let our best defensive player walk?

I recognize that Spencer is a good player but I'm ready to move on because I know you can't pay everyone and I am afraid Almost Anthony will return with a vengeance like everyone JJ pays..
