Latest mock before the 2017 Combine workouts:

28.  R1 EDGE TAKKARIST MCKINLEY, UCLA

60:  R2 WR DEDE WESTBROOK, OKLAHOMA

92:  R3 TE ADAM SHAHEEN, ASHLAND (Under the Radar TE that could rise based on combine results)

133: R4 DL LARRY OGUNJOBI, CHARLOTTE

211:  R6 CB AHKELLO WITHERSPOON, COLORADO

228:  R7 QB CHAD KELLY (who knows, maybe he can stop partying and show some of what Uncle Jim had in Buffalo)

246: R7 RB JALEN HURD, TENNESSEE (big RB, need one of those to spell Zeke, plus Dallas made a big mistake releasing the rookie RB from last year)

sorry I don't like any of the mocks.  There are some guys I like but none addresses team needs as a whole.  With all this CB talent your drafting a guy in the 6th....who will probably be asked to start.  Yes I know we did that last year but we had Carr, Mo and Scandy penciled as starters and this year that will change.  Most of your mocks grab a TE within the 1st 4 picks, a TE who will sit on the bench instead of a starting quality CB?  That is an automatic fail if we do not adress that issue.

I would take this if the real draft fell this way:

2/13/17

28: R1 WR MIKE WILLIAMS, CLEMSON (BPA)

60: R2 EDGE CARL LAWSON, AUBURN (BPA)

92: R3 TE JORDAN LEGGETT, CLEMSON(Not BPA, 4th, but did not need a center or WRs at this spot)

132: R4 EDGE DAESHON HALL,TEXAS A&M (Not BPA, did not need center or WRs at this spot, but paired with Lawson...beast)

212: R6 S RAYSHAWN JENKINS, MIAMI (Not BPA, same as last two, no WR here)

231: R7 CB DWAYNE THOMAS,  LSU (not BPA but best corner still available)

249: R7 DL STEVIE TU'LKOLOVATU, USC (not BPA, could not pass up a run stuffer)

If Williams is still there at 28, I will eat my laptop.  :)

Free Agency is in full swing and the 2016, 13-3 Dallas Cowboys has suffered big losses of experienced players\leaders:  Leary (OG), McClain (DT), Carr (CB), Mo (CB), Church (SS), Wilcox (SS\FS), Dunbar (RB), Davis (DT/DE).  Free (OT) is possibly retiring (still to be officially announced).  Combined with in-season losses of RoMac and Gregory.

Dallas ability to repeat as NFC East Champs in 2017 is in doubt, unless the team can add as good as or better talent.  Dallas free agency moves (addition and retention) as of 3/17/17 looks this way:  Carroll (CB), Paea (DT), Cooper (OG), Butler (WR), TWill (WR), and McFad (RB).  Deltas:  DE, SS, CB, SS, OT (unofficial), and RB,

These two mocks are based on team's current status minus any other FA additions.  I did not add LB above due to lost of RoMac because Dallas has depth at that position.

28: R1 EDGE T.J. WATT WISCONSIN (Relentless, the way Marinelli likes his linemen, move Lawrence to RE and watch JJ's bro do work)

60: R2 S JOSH JONES NC STATE (hitting power, range, good hands, bye Church and Wilcos)

92: R3 CB RASUL DOUGLAS WEST VIRGINIA (Tall DB, not as fast as I would like but should be do well, good hands)

133: R4 WR DEDE WESTBROOK OKLAHOMA (BPA at the time, would have taken in 5th if Dallas had a 5th round pick)

211: R6 RB MATTHEW DAYES NC STATE (shifty, good speed, potential to be good back in zone blocking)

228: R7 OT NATE THEAKER WAYNE STATE (Chaz Green and other T's are questionable, need replacement)

246: R7 EDGE JACOB PUGH FLORIDA STATE (another player with good motor or Marinelli to mold)

28: R1 EDGE TACO CHARLTON MICHIGAN (QB hunter, move DLaw to RDE and let this kid hunt)

60: R2 S JOSH JONES NC STATE (hard hitting SS with FS skills and good hands, can take it back to the house, can get home on blitz)

92: R3 TE JORDAN LEGGETT CLEMSON (The future at the TE position, this kid can do it all)

133: R4 WR AMARA DARBOH MICHIGAN (Better than Street, will push Andy Jones and may replace him)

211: R6 DL D.J. JONES MISSISSIPPI (full time motor, not easily moved)

228: R7 CB DWAYNE THOMAS LSU (Ok, so I gave Broaddus an alumn, no tears for Mo's departure)

246: R7 OT JONATHAN MCLAUGHLIN VIRGINIA TECH (Churn the bottom of the roster)

sorry I don't like any of the mocks.

Mocks are simulations that don't take a lot of things into considerations.  Last year's success has this team drafting in the back end of the draft, so outside of the first 3 rounds Dallas's pick of game changing players will rely on drafting the best players available on offense or defense.

As to the dislike of TEs...clearly you have not been paying attention to the TEs in this draft or the tentative nature of Dallas' TEs.  Everett and Leggett are better than all the TEs on this roster except Witten, and his time is coming to an end; or maybe they should wait for retirement day before looking for a replacement?  Good thing they did not wait until Romo's retirement before drafting a QB.  The depth of the TE on this team has questions:  the last second rounder is a FA no one wants, Swaim needs surgery, Hanna is recovering from injuries, and Rico is what the next coming of Witten? This class has some very good TEs and if one drops to Dallas I would complain if they draft one in the first 3 rounds.

As for CB, Dallas has Scandrick, McFadden, Brown, and Carroll, one more in the draft will be good, and this class is deeper in CBs than TEs.

What we know:

Dallas purged a number of defensive players, putting a hurt on the secondary.  I know they lost a lineman, but D-line is a squad that can still play by committee without much of a let off, if any, in comparison to last year.  I believe the secondary is functional as is, but needs to upgrade the skill set of the players they lost.

Status of the main positions many believe the team will target in the draft looks like this:

DE

D Lawrence, B. Mayowa, C. Tapper, D. Moore, R. Ash, L. Jones, R. Gregory (SUSP)

CB

O. Scandrick, A. Brown, N. Carroll, L. McFadden, S. Seamster, J. McKinnon, D. Thomas

S

K. Frazier, R. Blanton, J. Heath, B. Jones, J. Showers

 4/20 MOCK

28: R1 EDGE T.J. WATT WISCONSIN - Instant upgrade at DE

60: R2 CB FABIAN MOREAU UCLA - Instant upgrade at CB, he may miss a few games at the beginning, but he is a true shut down corner

92: R3 S EDDIE JACKSON ALABAMA - Punishing safety with good hands

133: R4 WR DEDE WESTBROOK OKLAHOMA - Yes, Williams has been resigned, but this kid can take it to the house after the catch

211: R6 EDGE HUNTER DIMICK UTAH - Don't sleep on this pick, he has a relentless motor and is productive

228: R7 RB T.J. LOGAN NORTH CAROLINA - This kid can take it to the house on any defense, true change of pace back

246: R7 QB SEFO LIUFAU COLORADO - Start the search for the next backup.

I believe the team must take a Defensive end at 28th, the top ones will be gone if they wait till 60, they can find a good CB or S in the second round.

Draft Position 2017:  List does not take FA into account.  However unlikely as many as 11-15 teams could take DL in the first round ahead of the 'boys, some maybe taken as OLB for 3-4 defenses.  This is going to be an interesting draft to watch.

*1.  Browns:  QB, OL, WR                  2.  49ers. QB, WR, LB, DB              3.  Bears:  QB, WR, OT

4. Jags:  DL, DB, OL, TE                     5. Titans:  WR, CB, TE, LB             6.  Jets:  OL, QB, DB, LB

7.  Chargers:  OL, WR, QB                  8. Panthers:  OT, RB, CB, DL          9.  Bengals:  LB, DL, OL, WR

10. Bills:  QB, CB, WR, LB               11.  Saints:  DL, DB, LB                    12.  Browns:  QB, OL, WR

13.  Cards:  WR, QB, DB, LB            14.  Eagles:  WR, RB, CB, LB           15.  Colts:  LB, RB, OL

16. Ravens:  WR, OLB, DB, RB        17.  Redskirts:  DL, S, LB, RB           18. Titans:  WR, CB, TE, LB

19. Bucs:  DL, WR, DB, RB              20.  Broncos:  DL, TE, QB                 21.  Lions:  LB, DL, RB

22.  Dolphins:  OL, TE, DL, DB        23.  Giants:  RB, OL, LB, QB            24.  Raiders:  DB, LB, DL

25.  Texans:  DL, QB, LB, TE           26.  Seahawks:  OL, DL, DB, WR     27. Chiefs:  LB, WR, DL, CB

28:  Cowboys:  CB, DL, TE, WR      29.  Packs:  CB, DE/OLB, RB, OL    30.  Steelers:  LB, QB, RB, DB

31. Falcons:  DL, DB, OL, WR         32.  Pats:  LB, DL, TE, DB

0.  Rams:  WR, OL, LB, CB              0.  Vikings:  OL, RB, WR, DT

*Note:  list is from Athlon Sports, 2017 NFL Draft edition.

Mock 2017

Last one before the 2017 draft:

28:  R1  DE T.J. Watt

60:  R2  S Josh Jones

92:  R3  CB Teez Tabor

133:  R4 TE Gerald Everett

211:  R6  DE Hunter Dimick

228:  R7  DL Stevie Tu'Kolovatu

246:  R7 CB Shaquill Griffin

Many of the best CBs are either hurt or facing charges, add to this draft trades, these will have major impact on who falls to Dallas.

Enjoy watching the draft...Go Cowboys!!!
