He's a special player? Sounds like the Cowboys had a 2nd round grade on him.

How do you know that? He was one of their 30 visits and they seemed pretty happy to get him (especially Garrett and Marinelli).

No one can say for sure that there will be a quality RE at 28. But there is a lot of late first round type DEs in this draft, so the odds are pointing to it.

You don't necessarily a DB who can play the ball either, and ball skills are hands down the most overrated facet of DB play. Give me a Scandrick who can mirror prime Wes Welker all day long over a gambler with a flashy highlight reel. Fans emphasize ball skills because it's the only time they ever see DBs on camera, but the best DBs are the ones you never see.

Ahkello Whitherspoon, he's a bad son of a gun. *shutdown*

I hope the boys have Justin Evans on their radar......hard hitting safety with range from A&M.  Guy just plays pissed off but makes plays on the ball as well.  Absolutely stood up Henry in the hole and put him on his back!

It was reported by Mike Fisher and other reporters I believe.

Also let me say this could have made sense because the Cowboys organization probably didn't give 32 or more players first round grades. Maybe they only had 25 players with first round grades and maybe all of the defensive guys with those grades were gone.

I'm happy they took a DE in the first round for once.

It was reported that of the 18 players the Cowboys had listed as 1st round prospects, only CB Kevin King was left undrafted.  They opted for Charlton because they thought they'd get a better DB at #60 than a DE at #60.

This is not earth-shattering.  In 2013, they had Frederick, Escobar & Williams all listed as 2nd round prospects.  Williams was 22nd, Frederick 24th, and Escobar 25th.  They chose Frederick ahead of Williams because there had already been a run on Olinemen, and then they took Escobar before Williams, because they didn't have any other TE's on their board after Escobar, but they still had multiple WR's.

Last year, they had QB Jeff Driskel stacked 2 slots ahead of Dak Prescott.  But they decided on Prescott anyway, and Driskel was drafted with the 207th pick by the NIners.

The order they have prospects stacked on the list is just guidance.  It is not absolute, and everyone recognizes that the order is a collective subjective judgment.  When it comes time to actually make the pick, some individuals have more influence than the "consensus" organizational grade on a player.

The Cowboys gave 18 first round grades, as reported by multiple reporters. In other words, they weren't going to get one of those at their pick 10 slots later.

The term 'first round grade' is an inaccurate misnomer because nobody has 32 of those guys every year, but obviously 32 get picked in the first round. It's an asinine concept that draft pundits and fans seem to cling to every year when their team takes a player they don't like.

But he wasn't a first round grade! (very few ever are) Waahhh!

Stephen Jones flat out said there is still a CB on the board with a 1st round grade. Listening to the interview I don't recall any indication of Taco having a 2nd round grade.

Well I certainly said they needed DB early and often and that's EXACTLY what happened.

And I certainly said that  we needed to go DE first because this draft was excessively deep at CB and we could get CB starters in the 2nd and 3rd round.    And that's EXACTLY what happened.

Why are we crowing again?

This is wrong, maybe he messed up in the interview and yes they had ONE player with a 1st round grade and apparently it was RB. Everybody whining and crying because we didn't pick a CB first is silly, I think the draft fell well for us and our needs.

It fell amazing!!!

Aside from Myles and Allen, we got the best DL prospect in the draft.     And then got two 1st round talents at CB and took care of our punt returning needs.     HR.
